Independent Dealers: How to Stand Out in a Crowd

Life for the IBD has changed and will continue to change.  With the influences of the internet and the BBS (Big Box Stores), our customers are faced with more choices than ever before.  I’m not telling you anything you don’t already know.  Do we blend in and hope we’ll get noticed, or do we find opportunities to set ourselves apart from “them?”  What is the retail advantage?  The choice is obvious if we want to thrive in this environment, but how?  Deep down, folks still want connections – to people and to places – something to identify with. This is where branding comes in.

Our shop, Cycle Therapy, is in Twin Falls, ID. We’re considered a small city of almost 50,000 people, which can swell to 100,000 on the weekends as we are the retail hub for 2+ hours in any direction. The socio-economic level of our market is generally low-to-mid range. There are currently 4 bike shops in our town (I’m only counting the IBDs, not the BBS, which brings the number of offerings to 7). The X/Y Tool - Document a Rider's Position Easily

A must for every bike fitter is the Purely Custom X/Y Tool. The X/Y Tool works efficiently to document and transfer a rider’s position on a bike. The X/Y Tool makes it simple to document saddle and handlebar position relative to the bottom bracket. With this information, a fitter can easily put a rider back into the proper position if their seat or handlebars get moved. It also makes setting up another bike to fit exactly like the one the person is presently riding a breeze. Put this information into Pure Position Fit Software and find your customer’s perfect new bike.
