Headset Spacers for Personal Style
If you’re looking for a few ways to add some bling to your bike, you’ll find plenty of ideas as you search around on the Purely Custom website. In recent blogs we’ve discussed everything from valve stem caps and spinners to single speed conversions with colorful hub spacers. I thought it would be a good idea to delve into the area of headset spacers because they are a great idea for both individuals wanting to accessorize their ride and they offer some great ideas for a little shop branding for bicycle dealers.
Spacers are not just for Looks
Headset spacers do actually serve a purpose on your bicycle when trying to get your handlebar stem to the right height. There are quite often some gaps to fill and we suggest approaching this situation with a little style, add a little color, maybe a custom engraving.
Headset spacers are available through Purely Custom in one inch and 1 1/8 inch circumference and in a variety of heights from 3mm to 20mm. If you’re trying to fill in a gap, you could use one larger spacer or you can get all kinds of creative and place several thinner spacers creating some real style for your ride. Here are some examples of what a little creativity can accomplish, feel free to alter them into your own ideas.
How are they made?
Many of the headset spacers you’ll find on our web site, the aluminum spacers in particular are made right here in our plant on a CNC lathe before we send them out to be anodized in a whole rainbow of colors. Hopefully you’ve noticed the jeweled headset spacers loaded with “Bling.”
These anodized aluminum spacers are carefully drilled and then each hole is filled by hand with a cubic zirconia, it’s a lot of work but they sure look nice and they really stand out. But let’s be honest, only some people can pull these off on their bike. I really like seeing a combination of carbon fiber accented by a thin spacer of color.
Custom Engraving
Purely Custom can engrave images, inspirational sayings or just a clever design. If you’re a bike shop owner, you may want to put the name of your shop on some spacers for a classy way to brand your shop and be on every bike that goes out the door. If your customer has invested in a nice bike, your branded spacer shows you value their purchase whereas they may not appreciate a plain old sticker slapped on to the frame. Purely Custom uses a state of the art 4th axis laser engraver to be able to engrave on a curved surface. For the carbon spacers we still have the capability to use a mechanical CNC method and fill with paint. Our laser engraver is a highly accurate, non-contact process that leaves a high resolution mark that won’t fade or wash away. We have about 1,500 fonts loaded and ready for use: however, there is an unlimited availability to whatever font we would like to use.
We have some combinations for you
We encourage you to mix and match and have fun designing your own pattern. In case you are a person that sees what they want and goes that direction, then we have a solution for you. On the website you’ll find the red, white, & Blue headset cap & spacers kit.
This kit contains a variety of colored carbon, jeweled spacers and even a matching headset cap and screw to proudly display your patriotic spirit. I’ve seen collections created for Ireland, and Belgium and really with a little thought can create a theme for any country or color scheme on your bike. So have some fun putting the different styles together and come up with something truly your style, that’s what we’re all about here at Purely Custom, and if you’re really proud of your combination, send us a picture and we’ll show the world. So start accessorizing your ride at www.purelycustom.com and show everyone your creativity with your custom headset spacers.
