The Purist Gets a Bike Decal
Vinyl Decals
So if you haven’t heard about my new road bike by now, here let me show you some pictures. I haven’t got that crazy but it has been a new adventure for me as I rack up some road miles, learn how to ride properly, and figure out how to explain to my wife why there is yet another bike in the garage. The new road bike has been my focus lately and for somebody who likes to stay active, there’s just not enough free time. I’ve been an avid mountain biker for years, worked the pitch in the local masters soccer league, I’m a snow boarder, cross-country skier, and I hike, kayak, and will head out for adventure at the mere mention of a couple of free hours. I am starting to stack up on the gear and yet you will not find a single sticker or decal that I have added to any of it, not even on the cargo box. I don’t know why that is, maybe I’m a purist and although I love a creative decal or bike sticker, I’m more likely to pass it on to the kids after I realize I’ll never apply it to anything. Well, I guess things have changed. The guys here at Purely Custom just knocked out a pretty high-end looking custom bike decal and I am excited to put it on my new road bike.
A Worthy Decal
So this vinyl bike decal is pretty small, but it looks classy and makes me feel like a serious rider. I joke as I tell everyone that I will no doubt be mistaken for a professional racer with the American flag and my name proudly adorned on the frame. I obviously chose the flag for the United States, but you can choose from flags from just about every country or even state, and if it not on the list, they can find it. One of our graphic designers, Arnel, was excited to show me how fast they can knockout a decal like this completely personalized and in a variety of styles. He did so in about the time it took me to walk across the office.
Decals such as these come in groups of four so you can put one on each side of your bike frame, maybe one on your helmet, and anywhere else you would like.
The Process
In the package of decals, you’ll also receive some easy directions on how to apply your vinyl decal in four overall easy steps. You pretty much clean the surface, hold up your sticker to make sure it fits in the desired space, peel off the backing, carefully place it in the desired location and gently apply pressure to make it stick and then peel back the application tape. It was so easy that you can almost skip the directions if you’re familiar with how the application tape works. I took a practice run at the application and applied one of my decals to our plant manager’s bike after he left his bike unattended. Does it make it mine now?
Printing Capabilities
So Arnel and Tyler have accomplished some creative things with the Mutoh printer and its capabilities. This eco-solvent ink printer is environmentally friendly, heats up the vinyl and bakes the ink right in and produces a vinyl image rated for 3 years outdoors. It prints and cuts with pretty much endless color capabilities.
They’ve printed vinyl images that were 48 inches wide and 12 feet high. They do caution with an image this large to consider a professional to apply the image, it can be like herding cats. Although most of the printing has been done on glossy vinyl, they’ve also printed on a wall canvas material as well. They’ve created vinyl for wall art with inspirational sayings, large menu boards for bike shops listing all their services right down to custom decals for events.
How Fast Is the Turnaround?
In most cases, Purely Custom receives the order and artwork and it’s done the next day. There are some setup templates for bike decals, but the custom opportunities go as far as the roll of vinyl will allow. If you have a wild idea, Purely Custom has graphic designers that can work through any idea and make it possible. If you would like to order decals for your bike, just click here for more about
